The Relatives

A Virtue Falls Story

(Virtue Falls #1.5) A Novella

Publisher: St. Martin's Press

Publication Date: 4/7/2015

Format: e-book

My Rating: 4 Stars

An exclusive prequel to blockbuster bestselling author Christina Dodd's OBSESSION FALLS (available in September 2015). From New York Times bestselling author comes a chilling story in which uninvited relatives show up at a wealthy couple's home outside of Virtue Falls. When the cousin attempts to take advantage of her wealthy relatives, things take an unexpectedly dark—and fatal—turn.

My Review

THE RELATIVES a novella (Virtue Falls 1.5) by Christina Dodd, a quirky funny, short thriller of some long lost family relatives, coming for a two day visit, which turns into a disaster--as they plot to destroy their hosts’ life. (love her novellas-great teasers)!

Gwen and Mario are a super couple with a business and a beautiful Venetian-style home in the Pacific Northwest. Their home has been featured in upscale magazines and they have taken pride in the architecture, design, and the gardens. From cuisine to entertaining, they are pros. However, nothing could prepare them for The Relatives.

Presently, Mario’s cousins from Minneapolis, Minnesota have come from a two day visit. Mario is the owner of an expanding electrical firm with locations from Portland to the Canadian border--handsome, hospitable, and Italian to the bones—assuring guests they were welcome.

However, the two guests, Cecily and Landon are trouble from day one. Cecily is a constant complainer about virtually everything from illnesses, food, and manipulative. From the minute they arrive, she is not happy staying in the stunning guest cottage and wants to be in the main house. Landon, goes along with whatever Cecily says.

When day three comes and they cannot get rid of these two, someone is thinking murder. However, will the hosts or the cousins win out? Similar to The Magpies, except relatives-instead of neighbors.

I was introduced to Christina Dodd last year with her smashing introduction of VIRTUE FALLS (Virtue Falls #1), and its prequel THE LISTENER (Virtue Falls .5), a powerful new series, which I highly recommend.

The best part of the novella - includes a bonus sneak peak of upcoming suspense thriller, OBSESSION FALLS (Virtue Falls #2) Sept, 2015 with Taylor Summers, an artist returning to the mountains, when she happens to stumble upon more than the scenic mountains, hiking, and a peaceful day of sketching. Someone is about to be murdered and they are threatening a young boy. What happens next may change her life.

Fans of suspense, mystery, drama, crime thrillers, and romance will enjoy the series; all rolled into one, guaranteeing you an engaging and satisfying ride! Looking forward to Book #2, another suspense thriller.

Christina, hope you and Emily enjoy your cruise and look forward to the updates!

In Christina Dodd's Obsession Falls, Taylor Summers witnesses the death threat to a young boy, and does the only thing she can do—she sacrifices herself to distract the killers. Her reward is a life in ruins, on the run in the wilderness, barely surviving a bitter winter and the even more bitter knowledge she has lost everything: her career, her reputation, her identity. She finds refuge in Virtue Falls, and there comes face to face with the knowledge that, to live her life again, she must enlist the help of the man who does not trust her to defeat the man who would destroy her.

About the Author

Readers become writers, and Christina Dodd has always been a reader. She reads everything, but because she loves humor, she likes romance best.

A woman wants things like world peace, a clean house, and a deep and meaningful relationship based on mutual understanding and love. A man wants things like a Craftsman router with attachments, undisputed control of the TV remote, and a red Corvette which will miraculously make his bald spot disappear. So when Christina’s first daughter was born, she told her husband she was going to quit work and write a book. It was a good time to start a new career, because how much trouble could one little infant be?

Ha! It took ten years, two children and three completed manuscripts before her first novel, CANDLE IN THE WINDOW, was published. In the twenty-two years since, her novels have been translated into 25 languages, won Romance Writers of America’s prestigious Golden Heart and RITA Awards and been called the year’s best by Library Journal. Christina Dodd herself has been a clue in the Los Angeles Times crossword puzzle (11/18/05, # 13 Down: Romance Novelist named Christina.) With more than 15 million of her books in print, Publishers Weekly praises her style that ‘showcases Dodd’s easy, addictive charm and steamy storytelling.’ Website Twitter
